Assessment for therapy
I would meet you for about an hour and would ask you about past events and present circumstances, your health and genetic predisposition, early experiences and family dynamics. This will allow me to gain an understanding of your personal difficulties, to decide what form of therapy would best suit you with your specific presenting problems. I also have to assess your motivation or commitment to the process of change and therapy.
The assessment is a dialog between two equals and you can also ask me questions that would help you to decide whether I can help you with your problem.
After the assessment we both must decide what should happen next. If I have some reservation, I will give reasons and suggest other places you might find help.
If I feel I can work with you, I will say so directly and ask you if you have decided and if you wish to work with me.
